No, the EAN code, like other barcodes, will not disappear. It will co-exist with the 2D code as long as there are uses for it. If there is no need to add data other than GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) to the barcode, the traditional barcode can still be used.
The minimum requirement is that a GTIN must always be present in each bar code on packaging that is intended to be scanned at an exit checkout.
