Link management

Link management is a service where brand owners can manage links related to products you have registered in My Products. With a simple scan of the 2D barcode on the product, your stakeholders can quickly access relevant information such as product descriptions, recipes or traceability information.

If you have GLNs registered in My places, you can create and manage links to additional information about your GLN, such as location details, logistics information, certificates, and opening hours.

The links are shared with the GS1 Registry Platform and displayed when the product or location is searched for in the global verifying service Verified by GS1. This makes it easier for consumers, retailers, marketplaces, and other stakeholders to verify information associated with your GTINs or GLNs.

Link management is an online platform for managing links to information about products and locations. You can create multiple links for each product or location, and each link is associated with a specific link type.

When you create links in Link management, a link to GS1 Sweden’s resolver is generated. If you then print a 2D barcode (such as a QR code) on your product with your GS1 Digital Link connected to the resolver link, you as the brand owner can decide which sources of information the 2D barcode links to, and the person scanning the 2D barcode will be sent to the type of information about the product that is relevant to them.

The service is included in the GS1 Company Prefix subscription from GS1 Sweden, and you can access it when you are logged in to MyGS1.

Link type examples

  • Certifications – which verify the origin, safety, and other certifications of the product.

  • Video – showing functions, uses and other benefits of the product.

  • Recall – with information indicating that a product has been recalled, either at batch or GTIN level.

  • Traceability information – to make the supply chain and origin of the product visible.

  • Safety information – with information on the product’s safety and handling instructions.

Link management is used by brand owners to manage and structure links to information about their products that they want to make easily accessible to their stakeholders, either by searching the product in Verified by GS1 or by scanning a 2D barcode with a GS1 Digital Link.

Retailers and consumers can then access verified information from the brand owner, such as certifications (e.g KRAV or Fairtrade), product descriptions, or specific documentation to demonstrate a product’s carbon footprint.

Both brand owners and retailers can use Link Management to link to extended information about a specific location.

  • You don’t need to create your own infrastructure to manage links.
  • You don’t need to change the 2D barcode on your product if you want to link to new information about the product.
  • You can link the products 2D barcode on your product to multiple link types.
  • You can create a product page hosted by GS1 Sweden with information sourced from Validoo, if you don’t have your own product pages on the web.
  • The links become searchable in Verified by GS1, making it easier for consumers, retailers and others, to verify information about your product.

How it works

A resolver is a tool that acts as a path finder, redirecting users to sources of information that is directly relevant to them. When you add links in Link management, the information is shared to the global database GS1 Registry Platform. This makes them visible in Verified by GS1 when your stakeholders search by the product’s GTIN.

Absolutely! We recommend that you create a URL for the product on your own website (domain) and embed it in the product’s 2D barcode (e.g., a QR code). This ensures that those scanning the 2D code feel secure when using a domain name connected to the brand. It also makes it easier for you as a brand owner to swithc resolver if needed.

If you want to include a link to a page on your own domain in the 2D code, it needs to be redirected to GS1 Sweden’s resolver, which in turn redirects to the requested page with the information. Read more about how to do this in Get started with GS1 Digital Link and Link management
