About SSCC
SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) are unique GS1 numbers used by companies to identify a logistic unit, such as a case, pallet or parcel. All parties in the supply chain can follow and track a logistics unit from manufacturer to end customer.
Why is SSCC needed?
Trading partners in various industries use SSCC to identify logistic units. The number is used in transport and logistics, the CPG industry, retail and food service.
The same unique system is used worldwide and is part of GS1 standards. It facilitates transport, inventory management and traceability both locally and globally.
The benefits of SSCC
Better traceability
Reduced logistics costs
Efficient transport
Companies use package numbers to;
-
Create traceability, as the number identifies each unique logistics unit and its content.
-
Streamline orders and shipments thanks to fast and secure tracking.
-
Link to additional information about the logistics unit.
-
Fast and accurate reading of logistic units anywhere in the world as the number can be coded in a barcode or EPC / RFID tag.
How is SSCC used?
SSCC is usually coded into the barcode GS1-128 which is printed on a pallet or transport label according to the GS1 Logistic Label standard.
GS1-128 can contain additional information about the content on the pallet, such as the expiry date or batch number. It is also possible to tag the pallet with an EPC / RFID tag.
