On 24 May, GS1 Trade Item Information and the Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) will be updated to version 3.1.31. This is a major update focusing on enabling further information sharing about carbon footprint and packaging. This is in accordance with legislation requiring more specific information in these areas.

New terms for carbon footprint

New terms are introduced to simplify and streamline the exchange of information about the carbon footprint of products. This enables better reporting and management of carbon emissions at the product level.

  • T4415 Cfp country code
  • T4416 Cfp date
  • T4417 Cfp value verification code
  • T4418 Cfp boundaries code
  • T4419 Cfp value
  • T4423 Cfp value measurement unit code
  • T4420 Cfp functional unit
  • T4421 Cfp methodology code
  • T4422 Cfp accounting code

New guide for carbon footprint

If you need to provide information about carbon footprint, a European harmonised guide has been developed. You can find it among our other guides.

New terms for materials, packaging materials and animal feed

In the packaging area, we continue to work on harmonisation and enabling the sharing of detailed information about packaging and their materials. We are adding additional terms to provide information about materials, packaging materials and even animal feed. The terms support parts of the reporting requirements under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the Textile Regulation.

  • T4402 Material density
  • T4403 Multilayer film material composition code
  • T4404 Packaging material density
  • T4412 Additive name
  • T4413 Level of containment code
  • T4405 Packaging material applied process code
  • T4409 Animal targeted health condition code
  • T4410 Animal food type code

Validation rules for pallet optimisation

In the update, we activate validation rules designed to support pallet optimisation and automation needs. These rules aim to ensure that the height and pallet configuration are correctly specified in the article information, i.e. that the information reflects the physical pallet, which in turn facilitates logistics and warehouse management.
