{"id":9864,"date":"2020-08-19T18:28:14","date_gmt":"2020-08-19T16:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gs1.se\/identify\/gtin-13\/"},"modified":"2024-08-15T11:16:37","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T09:16:37","slug":"gtin-13","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gs1.se\/en\/guides\/how-to-guides\/gtin-13\/","title":{"rendered":"GTIN-13"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>GTIN-13 consists of 13 digits, but in databases you should store the article number with 14 digits by adding the initial number &#8220;0&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You create GTIN-13 by using a GS1 Company prefix, a serial number, and a check digit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>GS1 Company prefix consists of 6-9 digits depending on the size of the number series.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The serial number consists of 3-6 digits depending on the length of the company prefix. We recommend that you number the items so that the first item is numbered &#8220;&#8230; 001&#8221;, the second article gets the number &#8220;&#8230; 002&#8221;, and so on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The check <a href=\"https:\/\/gs1.se\/en\/standards-and-services\/check-digit-calculator\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"7128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">digit is calculated here.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To create GTIN-13 using a GS1 Enterprise prefix that has nine digits:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"351\" height=\"131\" src=\"https:\/\/gs1.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/gtin-13.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1922\" style=\"width:352px;height:131px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gs1.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/gtin-13.png 351w, https:\/\/gs1.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/gtin-13-300x112.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>If the company prefix has fewer than nine digits, create the item number in the same way as above, but the serial number will consist of more than three digits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A GTIN-13 and a Global Location Number (GLN) can consist of the same numbers, they are handled separately in databases.<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"section-facts p-3 mb-5 mt-4 gs1-background-color-ui-1 ml-n3 mr-n3\">\n\n  <div class=\"row\">\n    <div class=\"col mb-3\">\n      <h3><\/h3>\n      <p><p>When you subscribe to a GS1 Company Prefix from GS1 Sweden, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gs1.se\/en\/guides\/how-to-guides\/generate-numbers-in-mygs1\/\">Generate Number<\/a> service, which helps you to create GTINs, is included. The service provides the entire number, including the check digit.
