Construction and GS1<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Companies who produce and sell products in the construction industry need to identify,<\/a> capture,<\/a> share<\/a> and trace<\/a> information along the entire supply chain. GS1 meets the business needs of your industry with global standards and services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a building is to be constructed, you need a clear understanding of where<\/em> an when<\/em> products are to be delivered. And you need to know exactly where in a building a particular product is located. GS1 standards enable safe and structured documentation that facilitates future management and material inventories in connection with maintenance, renovation, demolition and waste handling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why GS1?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the construction industry, it is a challenge to keep track of all trade items that are handled daily. You need to be able to quickly identify the products, and read the Global Trade Item Number<\/a> in an automated way. You also need to ensure that your customers can receive information from different data sources. And they have to be absolutely sure that it is about the right product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EU Regulation (EU) No 305\/2011 on 9 March 2011<\/a> calls for sustainability<\/em> and traceability<\/em> throughout the construction process. The EU regulation, together with the construction industry’s demand for increased digitalisation, led to an industry-wide decision<\/a> on 12 April 2018. It was then decided that all producers and suppliers should use GTIN as a common identifier for all construction products. During November 2021, the industry reiterated the need for GTIN on all construction products and set the target date to 1 July 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 1, 2022, a requirement for climate declaration was introduced for the construction of new buildings. This means that developers are required to disclose the impact a new building has on the climate. The industry sees Global Trade Item Number (GTIN)<\/a> as an enabler to meet this requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
