Follow the steps below to create Global Trade Item Number (GTIN).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Get a GS1 Company Prefix<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  1. Join GS1 Sweden by ordering a GS1 Company Prefix here<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click GS1 Company Prefix \/ Number Series<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Select GS1 Company Prefix – 1.000<\/strong> to identify up to 1.000 product types (items), and click Next<\/strong>. If you need a larger number series, click on the link further down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Fill in your business details and click Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Confirm that the order is correct. If you want to leave a message, you can do so here. Read and accept the terms and click Confirm<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    When we have received your order, you will receive an email with your GS1 Company Prefix.<\/p>\n\n\n

    When you subscribe to a GS1 Company Prefix from GS1 Sweden, the Generate Number<\/a> service, which helps you to create GTINs, is included. The service provides the entire number, including the check digit. You can save your numbers by registering your products with the My Products<\/a> function. Both tools are accessed via MyGS1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

    2. Start creating GTIN<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    A GTIN consists of a company prefix, serial number and a check digit. The GTIN structure looks like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    730001000 AAA<\/span> K<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    730001000 \u2013 is the company prefix. It consists of 6-9 digits depending on the size of the number series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    AAA<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 is the serial number of each GTIN. It consists of 3-6 digits depending on the length of the company prefix. We recommend that you number the items in numerical order \u2013 001, 002, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    K<\/strong><\/span>– is the check digit. You calculate it in the Calculate Check Digit Calculator<\/a>. You cannot determine the check digit yourself. Each new number needs a new check digit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now you have created GTIN.<\/p>\n\n\n

    Note that the GTINs you calculate are neither saved nor registered with or by GS1. You need to keep control of how you use your number series.<\/p>\n

    Make sure you have routines for administering your GTINs with information about which GTIN has been assigned to each product.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

    GTINs cannot not be reused<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Once a GTIN is assigned to an item, this GTIN can never be used for any other item, even if the original item has been discontinued. This is to increase traceability and security for end-users who may need access to information about a product long after the purchase.
