GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is a standardized and globally unique product identifier that works in the same way throughout the world in several industries such as retail, healthcare and more. However, it has not been used as an accepted global standard in the entire construction sector before.
Therefore, an adaptation of the regulations for GTIN to the construction sector was needed, for which we in Sweden have produced a proposal. A process is now underway within GS1 to make it a global standard. The hope is that this will be ready during the first half of 2022. This will also mean that foreign suppliers can use GTIN as a trade item number in Sweden with the same regulations and possibility of traceability.
