If you need to calculate a check digit for a variable weight (GTIN) that you will send to your recipients in Validoo, use the following steps:
- Start with the digit 2.
- The next digit should be between 0-5 depending on whether you are labeling your product with weight or price and on the number of decimals. The number 3, for example, means total weight with three decimals.
- After that, fill in the number (the GS1 Variable Weight Prefix) that you have received from GS1 Sweden, three or four digits.
- Then write in a serial number of your choice. The serial number can be between 00-99 or 000-999 depending on whether your variable weight prefix can create numbers for 100 or 1000 unique products.
- Finally, fill in the digits “0000” where the weight or price is supposed to be.
- Click on “Calculate” to obtain the number, including check digit for the GTIN, to be registered in Validoo.
NOTE! This GTIN is for registration in Validoo only and should not be used on the label of the actual product. There, weight or price should be automatically calculated for the GTIN and another check digit should also be automatically calculated. How to create numbers for products with varying weights.
