On May 21, there will be a large standard release of the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) and GS1 Trade Item Information. GDSN version 3.1.19 affects many users, as Sweden is taking a big step towards global harmonization of data and increased product data quality.
GS1 Global Data Model implemented
At the beginning of 2022, GS1 Sweden became compliant with the GS1 Global Data Model. This is a new global data model that plays an important role in data quality within GDSN.
Following the global data model is an important step towards data harmonization with the rest of the world. Brand owners and retailers now have an increased opportunity to;
- more complete information to consumers,
- more efficient data exchange,
- higher data quality,
… and also better efficiency in the operational work with trade item information and new opportunities to sell products to several selected markets.
In GS1 Trade Item Information version 3.1.19, attributes and codes will both be added and replaced to become more consistent with GS1 Global Data Model.
Working for a common business language that creates more global harmonization for our customers is a driving force every day for us at GS1 Sweden.
Lena Grönlund, Product Manager at GS1 Sweden
New opportunities for multiple industries
The update of GDSN and GS1 Trade Item Information contains a large set of 24 new attributes and new or changed code values as well as validation rules to ensure high data quality.
This means new opportunities for more data and this affects suppliers and brand owners who manage information about eg. groceries, alcoholic beverages, beauty and fruit & vegetables.
Basic attributes in the cosmetics industry
In 2022, the Swedish beauty industry has begun its connection to GDSN and standardized trade item information. In the update to GDSN 3.1.19, the basic attributes for cosmetics are now available for the Swedish market.
We see a strong need in the beauty industry for a joint management process of all trade item information in the supply chain and sales channels. Together with GS1 Sweden, we are now implementing more efficient and correct management of product information and this will save time in the entire value chain..
