A proposed directive that will increase requirements and expectations for a company’s control over conditions in its value chain, even beyond direct suppliers. Companies will be required to carry out controls focused on human rights, corporate responsibility and environmental aspects in order to mitigate risk and address negative impacts in their value chain, inside and outside Europe. High-impact sectors, including textiles, agriculture and mining have been identified. Annual inspection statements to be published (via website). The proposal is aligned with human rights and labour standards, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
